What About The Children?

k0924835My greatest desire in life has been to be a foster parent. I have such a burden for children who have gotten stuck with parents that just shouldn’t be parents. Grandparents all over the world are raising their grandkids. What has happened to this generation that they are so irresponsible? Where did we go wrong raising them?

Most of us have so much we forget how little others have. I am not talking so much about worldly possessions or money, I am talking about love, security, the feeling of belonging, knowing others care about us. Sadness overwhelms me when I think of all the little children who are being left alone, being beat, sexually abused, starving, lacking medical attention and so many other neglects. What can we do right? Did you know that:

According to NCANDS whose latest statistics are for 2005 an estimated 3.3 million referrals of child abuse or neglect were received by public social service or CPS      agencies. Of these referrals, 899,000 children were confirmed to be victims of abuse or neglect (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2007). That means about 12 out of every 1,000 children up to age 18 in the United States were found to be victims of maltreatment in 2005(USDHHS, 2007).(http://www.americanhumane.org/about-us/newsroom/fact-sheets/child-abuse-neglect-data.html)

I believe that if each one of us just took it upon ourselves to help with children in our extended families that may fall victim to abuse and neglect that we would make a world of difference to a child. I have a home-based business so that I can do that. Some may say it’s not our responsibility as grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, or cousins to care for someone else’s child. That is true. These kids are the responsibilities of their parents. But their parents aren’t living up to their task. Should the child suffer? I say no. Why are we on this earth anyway? I will take any child I can, even if for a day, to let them feel safe and loved. It could make all the difference in the world.

I too have such a heart for children. My husband and I both would love to open our hearts and home to a child, but we have been just making it with just the two ourselves. Once we get this business up and running that we just started, we will be opening our heart and home to a child or children.

Anyone who is searching for the real meaning of life, can find it in the warm hug or happy smile of an appreciative child.
