This task takes some real artistic ability. When I first thought about starting my home based business I thought that it would be a thoughtless task. However, two years later I realize that it does take some maneuvering. Working at home is the only way to go, especially when you have kids.
I do realize though that getting them involved always makes life easier. Teaching them how to answer the phone properly is a plus. Kids love to answer the phone, however, it needs to be professional. You would be surprised how well kids can do with the right training (and reward). First I made sure my desk is in the living room where they are so I can be an ever present force.
Giving them an activity that they can do sitting next to you is a great way to keep them occupied, plus you are there so they are not fighting for your attention. I find that kids also respond well to a time limit…”Mommy has to work for 45 more minutes, I will set the timer. When the timer goes off I will be finished with my work and we will go to the park.” One thing for sure, when that time goes off you need to keep your promise. As work at home moms we cannot let our business devour our family.
We have to remember our reason for working at home, our why needs to be well defined. Those little ones will be grown and gone before you know it, so lets include them in the business that we do because of them.
