Winter is on its way and for those of us who live where the snow flies that can be quite a challenge if you have kids stuck inside due to bad weather. I always thought if you had more than one child they would have each other to play with. WRONG!!! It just gives them a boxing partner. Even taking them somewhere to play there is the 20 minutes or so in the car when they can cause great bodily harm to each other not to mention hand deliver a migraine headache to the driver. I had this idea somewhere that the kids could do their thing and I could do my thing with my home-based business. Unfortunately I was very wrong. Being a parent is not having a lot of time to do your own thing. I never realized this until I began raising my six year old twins in my late 40’s and being a care taker for my 4 grandchildren as well. It’s funny how things look so different to you when you start going down the other side of the hill. I have spent a lot of hours reading and surfing the web looking for ideas on what to do with bored kids. Here are some great ideas that I came up with:
Make cookies or cupcakes
Color with them
Read to them
Let them read to you
Musical chairs (if you have enough kids)
Do a scavenger hunt indoors
Play hide and seek
Dance to funky music (good exercise to)
Blow up a balloon and hit it back and forth without it hitting the floor
Play I spy
Have them help you with the weekly menu
Teach them how to sew buttons on
Make paper airplanes (great instructions online)
Put a puzzle together
Have a picnic on the living room floor
Make a tent out of blankets and chairs
You can always hire your kids to help you with your home-based business. They are great at sorting, filing, even some computer work for the older ones. You will just have to schedule time when the little guys and gals are sleeping. They love playing when you are playing with them, and its fun! You will be surprised how much you enjoy hanging out with them. Remember, kids will only be kids for a little while…everything else will still be there when they are grown and gone.
