I just could not believe what the doctor was telling me. My son, an autoimmune disease, how in the world could this be. I don’t believe it. Every week I have to drive my son to the doctor for blood work and every two weeks take him to the hematologist/oncologist for a once over. He looks so normal, acts normal, eats normal but the reality is that his immune system is destroying him. What makes that happen? As I sat reflecting on all this new information I realized how blessed I am to be able to Stay At Home Mom Business and be available to do all this running back and forth every week. Moms really need to be able to be home so they can deal with the speed bumps that life has before us. Just when we think we have it all figured out, in comes one from left field. I could not imagine having to deal with the stress of my son’s diagnosis and have to go to a job and deal with that stress as well. As moms we need to research and try to do whatever necessary to stay home and care for our children instead of having to drop them off somewhere for a daycare to do it. This is the most important job that was ever created and we need to put our all into it. They grow up to quickly.
Having a home based business allows me the flexibility to get ready for the holiday at a less stressful pace. I love December will all the holiday traditions and I am so glad that I have the time to pass these traditions down to my children by making sure they are carried out.
One of our traditions is to light an advent candle and open an advent calendar daily. When I worked out in corporate world, it usually ment on the weekends, we would do the whole week, as we just did not have time during the week to take 5 minutes to appreciate each other, the gifts we have, and the spirit of the holidays.
I am so very happy to have Women’s Dream Team.
What are your holiday traditions that you practice?
A recent report found that women-owned businesses in the United States now employ 23 million people, which is nearly double the number of those employed by the 50 biggest companies in the country combined!

Business analysts agree: Alicia Robb, Kauffman Foundation senior research fellow was recently quoted saying the following: “The interesting thing about women entrepreneurs is that many of them may be purposely starting businesses as a lifestyle choice. The number of women-owned businesses growing faster may reflect that women are going into business as a viable way to move out of the traditional employment market and gain flexibility.”6
Why not be one of those women entrepreneurs and take your career and your financial future in your own hands?

So after putting in another day with my home-based business I got up from my chair feeling pretty good about myself and my accomplishments for the day. Then I turned around and looked at my house. I have twin 6 year old boys, one boxer, and two kittens. No, two little boys could not have possibly created what looked like the work of hurricane Katrina. Those feelings of accomplishment just went down the drain. As I sat there in the midst of this natural disaster I decided I definitely had to come up with a plan and fast. How in the world would I be able to run a successful business and a successful household all while homeschooling my children. This really did sound impossible. Thus the daily schedule. Because I am an unorganized person I needed something I could look at and see what needed to be done and whether I had done it. I also wrote down all the things that a 6 year old was capable of doing in the way of household chores. Now I was feeling a little better about myself once again. I made a chore chart. I know, you probably think…”Those do not work” But mine does. I took colored poster board and drew a huge bubble gum machine on it and cut it out. Then I cut out bubble gum circles, enough to match how many responsibilities/chores each child would have. Then I drew matching bubble gum circles on the machine. I put Velcro on the back of each bubble gum and machine. On each bubble gum circle I cut out, I wrote a different chore on each one. As the boys completed each chore I would stick the bubble gum into the machine. They thought I was brilliant…and I shared their thoughts. This worked great. I make sure I clean up the kitchen after each meal, start one load of clothes in the morning and one after lunch, vacuum right after lunch before I sit down at my desk and the boys want allowance so they make sure they earn all of their bubble gum every day. Is it perfect? No. We get side tracked sometimes but it sure is a lot better now than before.
When my grown children were small I never had the option of home schooling them. I had to work outside the home. So our three grown children were educated through the public school system and had some very good teachers. When became parents of twin boys at the age of 46, we talked about how we wanted them educated from the time they were born until the year before they started school. Fortunately this time around I had the option of home schooling them because I am a work at home mom with my own home based business.

There are so many good teachers in public schools, the problem we have is not with the teachers as much as with the governing forces they are ruled by. We believe children should not be taught the same way. Each child is different and learns differently. Some children learn at a very fast pace, others take their time. My husband and I wanted to be able to start teaching them when they were ready, not when the school said they had to go. We also wanted to choose what we taught them. We have very strong spiritual beliefs that we also wanted to implement into their curriculum.
The school system wasn’t our only concern. The peers were the biggest concern we had. There are so many children in one room together for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week bringing in things that they are exposed to at home. This concerned us greatly. My husband and I are not under any belief that we can always protect them from everything, but we can protect them until we can instill in them what we think is healthy for them to learn and be exposed to. Then when the time comes for them to be around other children they will have a better understanding of what is right and wrong where our family is concerned.
Many talk of home-school children not being socialized. They have plenty of socialization with their church friends, their cousins, as well as, playing at the park with me and my husband within 10 feet to keep an eye on things. It is a parent’s job to be on duty all the time. Home school is our school of choice. With my home-based business they are also learn the benefit of families working together toward success and the value of a hard earned dollar. If you are considering home schooling your children I do believe you should read as much information as you can so you will be informed. September is here, and that means schools around the country are back in session – or at least they will be very soon. Once the kids are out from underfoot, many stay-at-home moms find themselves with an abundance of time on their hands. With schedules suddenly free and clear, this creates a perfect opportunity to make some extra money. A stay at home mom business can succeed, but it must be treated like a real job.
The first step is to set up a functional work environment, complete with a desk and whatever office supplies you’ll need. Make sure that you have reliable Internet access, as most of your business will be conducted online. When the kids come home from school, reinforce the fact that your workspace is off limits. Given enough time and persistence, you’ll be well on your way to operating a successful small business.
